The work I created for Canton Film Fest was born out of being in a position where I had almost complete creative freedom while also having almost no budget. Everything created as a result was therefore designed to be simple, direct and with a minimal color palette. 

Other considerations were:

Lack of a starting budget. The first typeface we used was freeware. The Canton Palace Theatre photo was a student's. 

Limited choice of already limited colors. I could work in 2-3, but they couldn't be any of the colors of the city's high school football teams, where there is some of the most intense rivalry in the country.

Use of volunteers. Not everyone involved in the project was able to make the level of time commitment needed to complete individual elements. I had to find several web developers to complete our site.

2011 was a huge success, with nearly 1000 people attending across 3 days, here's looking forward to 2012.
